About

My name is Javier Caletrío. I am a researcher in complex systems, mobility and environmental change, with a special interest in the Mediterranean.

Born and educated in Valencia where I studied Economics, I moved to England in the late 1990s to study a Masters and a PhD in Sociology (funded by the Economic and Social Research Council).

Since my arrival to England in 1998 until 2017 I was based at the Centre for Mobilities Research (Lancaster). Since 2012 I have collaborated with the Mobile Lives Forum (Paris) as a research adviser.

Besides my academic work, I also have a lifelong interest in ecology and ornithology. My edited book Low-Carbon Birding which calls for shift towards climate-friendly social norms and aspirations was selected as the Best Bird Book of the Year 2022 by the British Trust for Ornithology and the journal British Birds.

Research themes: complex systems, transport, tourism, sustainability transitions, climate change mitigation and adaptation, economic development, inequality and landscape change, future scenarios, bird migration systems, Mediterranean.
