Since childhood I have been interested in ornithology, particularly the migration of birds.
Valencia, the Mediterranean city where I grew up, sits along a busy migration flyway described by Reginal Moreau in his classic The Palaearctic-African Bird Migration Systems. From a complex systems perspective, I am interested in the climatic, political, economic, social and cultural dynamics that intersect with the ecology of migrant bird populations, from heat waves in Europe, changing wind patterns in the Atlantic, and depopulation of rural areas in Spain, to how farming households in the Sahel organise themselves economically to secure their livelihoods.

I created the website Tales from the flyways to highlight the multidimensional character of the Palaeartic – African bird migration system.

Launched in 2023 it remains temporarily inactive.
